An Administration Police officer shot and critically injured his wife before committing suicide at their residence in South B.
The
AP Senior Sergeant attached to the Westlands Sub-County offices went
home on Monday at around 7.30 pm and picked a quarrel with his wife over
the house rent.
According to a
neighbour, the deceased wanted the Sh16,000 he had earlier given his
wife for March’s house rent. It was however not very clear what
transpired.
The neighbour, Peter Thuita, told the police that at around 9pm he heard screams from the house followed by successive gunshots.
Makadara
head of CID Zach Nanguli said that the officer arrived home earlier
than usual and is suspected to have taken alcohol before the fatal
shooting.
He shot the wife five times
on the neck, leg, hand, shoulder and abdomen before she managed to
escape from the house. He then shot himself on the head and died on the
spot.
The wife, identified as Janet
Atieno, was rushed to Mariakani Cottage hospital in a critical
condition. She is also an AP Constable based at the Security of
Government Building (SGB), Uhuru Camp.
His official firearm, a Ceska pistol, loaded with seven rounds of ammunition was recovered at the scene.
“We also found eight spent cartridges,” said the CID chief.
A Facebook page associated with the officer had a post that read: “I must do something stupid. Liwe liwalo. I am fed up.”
